In
separate interviews , they said that love should not be limited to St.
Valentine’s Day.
It
is celebrated in many countries, although it remains a working day in most of
them.
Pop-gospel
artist, Sammie Okposo told NAN that he celebrates Valentine’s Day like every
other day.
Okposo,
however, said that he would be at a show with his wife this Valentine’s Day.
“As
long as we are together, nothing else matters. It is all about spending time
together.
“It
is not about one day which the world has labelled Lovers’ or Valentine’s Day.
Every day is Valentine for me and my wife,’’ he said.
He
advised couples to celebrate love daily.
“I
do not wait for Feb. 14 of every year to show my wife that I love and
appreciate her.
“For
me, Valentine’s Day is not a big deal. I love, cherish and appreciate my wife
everyday,’’ he told NAN.
Anny
Ibrahim, also an artiste, said that she liked celebrating Valentine’s Day at
home with her husband.
“We
get gifts for each other.
“This
year, I have an event where I am performing on Feb. 14. It is the Alabanza Love
Concert; so, that will be it for this year’s Val.
“We
will both attend and have a great time,’’ Ibrahim said.
She
told NAN that she could not really determine her most memorable Valentine’s
Day.
She
advised couples to celebrate their love daily.
“Everyday
should be special for them and not just the Valentine’s Day.
“If
we see every day as special, then, Val Day will not be different.
“Couples
should buy gifts for each other and `hang out’ occasionally. It should not be
left till Valentine’s Day,’’ she urged.
For
Ill Bliss, a musician, said that this year’s Valentine’s Day would provide an
opportunity for him and his wife to have a private candle light dinner.
He
told NAN that he had already bought a gift for his wife to celebrate the Day.
MC
Icewater , a Comedian, said that although he had not planned how to celebrate
this year’s Valentine’s Day, he would make it a memorable one.
The
comedian advised couples to use the opportunity to express genuine love for
each other.
He
also advised Nigerians to regularly buy gifts for their loved ones to show
love.
Another
artiste, Lara George, said that Valentine’s Day was usually something
different’ every year.
George
told NAN that her most memorable Valentine’s gift was a set of rings from her
husband to replace her initial wedding rings.
She
urged couples to celebrate themselves daily.
NAN
reports that several martyrdom stories were invented for the various Valentines
that belonged to February 14.
A
popular hagiographical account of Saint Valentine of Rome states that he was
imprisoned for performing weddings for soldiers who were forbidden to marry and
for ministering to Christians persecuted under the Roman Empire.
According
to legends, during his imprisonment, he healed the daughter of his jailer,
Asterius.
An
embellishment to this story states that before his execution, he wrote her a
letter signed “Your Valentine” as a farewell. (NAN)
