Parties deadlock alarms over abandoned projects in Ekiti

Progressives Congress (APC) and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ekiti State yesterday bickered over abandoned legacy projects in the state.
The APC had criticised Governor Ayodele Fayose for abandoning his predecessor’s legacy projects, saying he was doing so in bad faith.
A statement by the Publicity Secretary of the party, Taiwo Olatunbosun, stated: “It is a disservice to the people of Ekiti State for Governor Fayose to abandon legacy projects of the Fayemi administration simply because he wants to rubbish the achievements of his predecessor.”
Olatunbosun wondered why a development-oriented governor would abandon an edifice like the Oba
Adejugbe Hospital, which he said had been completed by the Fayemi administration.
But the PDP in a swift reaction dismissed APC’s claims as lies, saying: “The incessant concoctions of falsehood by the APC against Governor Fayose has been described as barbaric by the state chapter of the PDP.”
In a statement by Publicity Secretary of PDP, Mr Jackson Adebayo, the party described the rate at which the APC was manufacturing lies against the governor as a deliberate ploy by the opposition party to delay the development works being pursued by he governor.
The party stressed that the promotion of falsehood in the name of politics of opposition by the APC was a manifestation of the party’s destructive tendencies as exhibited when they it was in government.
“The way they concoct lies upon lies everyday against our governor only portends that the APC does not believe in the peace and development of Ekiti State and its people. It is also a manifestation of the destructive tendencies inherent in the party,” Adebayo said.
Recounting the legacy projects allegedly abandoned by Fayose’s government, Olatunbosun said: “Oba Adejugbe Hospital was completed and commissioned by the Fayemi administration while contract for equipping the hospital was already awarded but Fayose on assumption of office cancelled the contract and abandoned the hospital to be overgrown with weeds.
“It will be unfortunate and waste of resources if Oba Adejugbe Hospital is left to rot away because of this thought by Fayose that the project belonged to Fayemi instead of Ekiti people.”
Olatubosun regretted that Fayose had also abandoned Funmi Olayinka Civic Centre which was 70 percent completed before Fayemi left office, saying Fayose stopped work on the project after contractors allegedly refused to pay gratification of10 percent of the money already paid.‎
